The Rayrick brand of fishing line and nets have an innovative, patent pending design. Unlike their competitors, our products are nylon free. Typical fishing line is nylon and is a major source of plastic water pollution which endangers both the aquatic environment and human health. We have achieved our goals of creating highly effective products and decreasing the environmental harm which typical fishing products cause. At least ninety percent of our lines and nets are a bio-based polymer. That is how we reduce the plastic pollution that is the inevitable consequence of nylon lines and nets. Maximizing the use of our polymer and eliminating the use of nylon is why our products are eco-friendly.
Our efforts started with a combination of innovative curiosity, a desire to join the battle to save the environment and a goal to create a product that would exceed consumer expectations. Our Rayrick brand evolved over time, fortunately with the help of scientific minds, business expertise, and major material and manufacturing sources who recognized and supported the magnitude of our vision and its potential to both generate profits and reduce plastic pollution.
We know that being eco-friendly is not enough unless the product works and works well. Our products are effective. The fishing line is strong and provides high quality casting. What sport or commercial fisher would not want a strong line that also reduces the plastic water pollution which inevitably occurs from nylon lines?
Using a polymer based on modified plant materials also increases our use of sustainable, renewable materials. According to our science consultant, Dr. Martin Hubbe, a professor at North Carolina State University, using our polymer “based on modified plant materials” results in “decreasing reliance on non-renewable fossil resources, in this way, the products strike a balance between contributing to a sustainable future and meeting current needs for product performance.” With the polymer being at least ninety percent of our product, we reduce our environmental impact from production throughout the use and life of our lines and nets.
Our unique product line can be constructed into sizes from 0.5 mm diameters to 12 mm. Diameter can readily be increased since the product can be sold as a monofilament or can be braided depending on the application.
Our Rayrick fishing line consists of a patent pending design that mimics nature. Like a shell protecting a nut, an outer protective layer covers our environmentally friendly polymer. But if a line breaks, the shell separates, exposing the polymer fibers. This design provides two additional benefits. First, the fishing line should reduce the risk of entangling outboard motors. Second, we hope that marine mammals will break through the netting and reduce the number of deaths of dolphins, porpoises, otters, sea lions, seals and whales who find themselves ensnared in fishing nets.
Crab and lobster baskets and cages, based on our net concept, are in development.
