Over the course of several years, we have developed a uniquely designed, eco-friendly fishing line and fishing net, which are made almost entirely of a bio-based polymer. A patent is pending. Our efforts in bringing this to market have been assisted by a large bio-material manufacturer and a large extrusion company who have recognized the value and potential market for our products. The dominant material in fishing lines, and the source of a great deal of dangerous plastic pollution, is nylon. We were motivated to begin this project by our concern for the dangerous harm that nylon’s plastic pollution inflicts on the health of people, wildlife, coastal reefs and our most basic resource, the water. Our bio-based, unbraided, monofilament Rayrick line is nylon free. Therefore, it will reduce plastic pollution. Its unique construction also helps reduce the risk of outboard engine entanglement, a common problem with nylon line, without compromising how well our line works. Rayrick provides a strong, effective line with high quality casting. At least ninety percent of our product is our bio-based polymer. This reduces our environmental impact both at production and at the end of the product’s use. This is why our Rayrick line meets the ever growing demand of sports and commercial fishermen for line which reduces the harm to the waters and to the aquatic life on which they depend. With a similar design, our fishing net utilizes the same bio-based polymer. Like the fishing line, the net is nylon free. For this application, the line can be braided. Its construction also addresses the often-tragic consequences of fishing nets entangling marine mammals. Our nets are designed to allow accidentally entangled marine mammals a fighting chance to break through the netting material and survive. Thus, we hope to reduce the number of unintended deaths of dolphins, porpoises, otters, sea lions, seals and whales who find themselves ensnared in nets. In development are nylon free crab and lobster baskets which will utilize our Rayrick line and netting design and materials.
